October Newsletter (Men, I Have a Question for You About Leadership)
/Over the last few weeks, I have been actively engaged in conversations across our business landscape. We have been fortunate enough to attend some company staff meetings and occasionally, an event. In many cases I encountered a discomforting trend: the lack of women in our sport, active and healthy living business space. Its odd: at the entry level, many companies have a balanced staff. But, as the leadership pyramid narrows, the percentage of women decreases. An absence of women obviously means a disproportional share for men, so we men better “own it.” Talent really is not enough any longer. To move forward in a business career, you need a mentor or a leader who sees talent where it lies, and reaches in to help. This is the primary responsibility for all senior execs. So I ask you, fellow male execs, are you actively advancing your female colleagues careers with guidance and true interest? Are you sure? I give us a C- grade. As the 2025 budget season approaches I challenge you to plan to rebalance your team and bring aspiring young female talent up in your organizational structure.
Checking In On the Military Pro Sport Alliance
What we do at SDSI: in early 2024, SDSI hosted the first All Pro Sport meeting at the amazing C3 Bank Boardroom in Old Encinitas. The goal was to examine ways we could collaborate and engage more San Diegans in attending and supporting our Pro sport teams. The outcome was a Pro Sport Military Alliance . In a recent article, the San Diego Business Journal featured the Alliance, highlighting it’s unique initiative uniting eight local sports teams to support San Diego’s 1.3 million military service members and their families. The Alliance offers free and discounted tickets, in-game promotions, and on-base events throughout the 2024-25 season. We are proud to report the San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria supports the initiative and presented the Alliance with a Proclamation of Support.
