Leadership…. It’s a Personal Commitment (October Newsletter)

Have you ever thought about Leadership…not at the national level, or the state, but in your own hometown, or in our case, in your own business community? A few months back we began a conversation about the logic tree of Leadership in the business community. It begins with the formulation of a community. Identifying a community at the town level is easy… its where we live. Well, it’s equally easy to identify a business community: it's the environment where our businesses live with other businesses. In our case, the community of companies dedicated to the San Diego lifestyle, more specifically, the Sport and Active Lifestyle community, or SAL.

Communities are comprised of residents or citizens. Residents are the beneficiaries of the citizens’ commitment to make the community better. Leadership involves converting residents to citizens! The benefit is obvious… citizens make better communities.

SDSI is a community, a pretty new one. We are 10 years strong. We all collaborate and create commerce among our 100 members. There is no better “rolodex” in San Diego than the collective one we enjoy on our group. We also have helped create 86 new companies, 545 jobs, helped raise $86 million in capital, and enjoy a 82% success rate among our new companies, 51% of whom are led by female founders or execs. Wow!

Back to the Leadership question. Can you help the community by creating more participation here at SDSI? If there are new members or if you are a news reader and want to know how you can help lead our community forward, call us, email us, get involved.
