/2022..the end is (blessedly) in sight! This was the year of the Roller Coaster Ride. Our businesses were booming coming into 2022, the pandemic eased, people were able to congregate and come back to work. Among those coming back to work were people who make things. Factories came on line, containers were lined up (at historic high prices) and all the late factory orders showed up…6 months late, sometimes even later. In spite of all that, the Sport and Active Lifestyle industry has weathered most of the storm and we are free to look ahead at a more robust Spring and Summer. The tsunami of change that hit our markets was not all destructive. New “Work from Home” hybrid models have liberated consumers and made more room for self awareness and fitness. The adaptation of technology has permeated every level of society, pre K to Grandparents, and Direct to Consumer sales have blossomed. Some aspects of costs have gone down, the best example being container pricing. Demand has leveled off and retailers are selling down all the late arriving inventory. Most importantly, employment remains high. So, based on trends and some positive thinking, I am optimistic that 2023 will be a more stable business year, with supply more closely aligned with demand…and best of all, our consumer will continue a life of awareness where life balance and out of office activities benefit our focus as the San Diego Lifestyle industry.
